Flat Earthers like to claim that The Atlantic Treaty prohibits flights over Antarctica beyond 60º South Latitude. This is a lie. The treaty states no such thing. Here's the link tho the treaty. (www.ats.aq)

Wrong treaty.

https://symboliamag.com/is-it-illegal-to-fly-over-antarctica/

Is It Illegal To Fly Over Antarctica?

Yes, it is illegal to fly over Antarctica. The Southern and Antarctic Territories Act of 1982 (as amended) generally prohibits flights in Antarctica. However, for specific purposes, such as for scientific research or supply of an installation in Antarctica, the act allows for such flights. The Act also prohibits entry into Southern and Antarctic Territories (which consists of all land and ice south of the 66th south parallel south) without a permit issued by the Secretary of the Interior. No permits are currently required to enter this area.

Which "Minister of the Interior" are they referencing?

Charles Piscitelli is a health blogger who is passionate about helping others achieve their best health

What kind of shit source is that? Post the law or treaty like I did.

Even if you dismiss the fact that you need Department of Defense's permission, the aviation rules prohibit any flights from crossing the 72 parallel without added survival gear that nobody has on their flights. Which is funny, because the same regulations are not implemented for the north pole.

In short, regardless of who's writing these rules, the results are the same. There are no flights over the South Pole.

You don't need DOD permission to fly over Antarctica.

Did you even read the article?

Yes. Did you?

By invite only

Since Antarctica is not open to tourism by scheduled flights, services are usually requested by stations on the ground. For instance, the US airports on the South Pole, such as the Jack F. Paulus Skiway or Williams Field, require advance clearance by the Department of Defense and National Science Foundation (NSF).

Seems you need to be cleared by two agencies in fact.

To land at a US airport.

Jesus, it literally spells it out for you. Are you dense?

I have no idea what you think your point is. Nobody is saying people don't go there, just that it's impossible to fly over it. Because it is not a pole.

Not sure if authentic:

ANTARCTICA BY PRIVATE JET https://www.redsavannah.com/antarctica/antarctic/itinerary/antarctica-by-private-jet

Flights to Antarctica

Over 90% of Antarctic visitors travel by ship, which involves four days at sea and takes a minimum of ten days overall. Alternatively, there is a small but growing selection of flights to Antarctica which get you there within a few hours. https://www.swoop-antarctica.com/cruises/flights

There are no scheduled flights to Antarctica

The only flights available for tourists are charter flights, which are only available as part of a package, rather than on a ‘seat only’ basis like booking a regular scheduled flight

In spite of the short Antarctic flying season (Dec - Feb) and no regular flight schedule, there’s a surprisingly good range of options available, from 1 to 10 days in length

Unlike boat-based cruises which can only explore Antarctica's coastline, flights unlock Antarctica's vast interior, including the South Pole

Antarctica’s harsh and changeable weather makes flying challenging and susceptible to potential delays. The expediency of flying, therefore, needs to be balanced with this higher risk; learn more about how to get to Antarctica.

Well yeah. I interpreted that as simply meaning that flights must be privately chartered. You can't just get on Expedia and book for a commercially scheduled pre-arranged flight.

Why don't they fly over Antarctica then, it should be faster for some flights, but they dont do it, and it's always cold that high

The North Pole is much closer to civilization than the South Pole.

Not sure about the shape of the earth. Besides the indoctrination we all had growing up... Been to the ocean and its visibly level "sea level... See level) How can water curve? Does the water bulge out in the middle of the ocean? What about the sun being so far away even though crepuscular rays may indicate otherwise? Flight paths make much more sense on maps like ww2 air map of the world or azimuthal equidistant maps. What about the bible saying the earth has an impenetrable firmament above? Doesn't the globe understanding coincide with the big bang theory? Geo centrism has been around for a long time. Same with helio centrism. Do we trust the Freemason astronauts? Not saying either train of thought is wrong, just things to ponder.

I’m not sure about the 60deg latitude claim, but the antarctic treaty unambiguously states that no one can go to antarctica without obtaining explicit permission from one or more of the member nations first.

the whole thing is a red herring in regards to the shape of the world though. no one needs to go there to determine the shape of the world. also the idea that antarctica is not a continent the shape we think it is, and is actually an ice wall that surrounds the known world, is exactly that - an idea.

the shape of the world does not depend on the shape of antarctica; that’s silly, regardless of its shape

No, it does not. I have linked to the document. It says no such thing.

No, it does not.

sounds like you haven’t read it closely.

Article vii sub 5
5. Each Contracting Party shall, at the time when the present Treaty enters into force for it, inform the other Contracting Parties, and thereafter shall give them notice in advance, of a. all expeditions to and within Antarctica, on the part of its ships or nationals, and all expeditions to Antarctica organized in or proceeding from its territory; b. all stations in Antarctica occupied by its nationals; and c. any military personnel or equipment intended to be introduced by it into Antarctica subject to the conditions prescribed in paragraph 2 of Article I of the present Treaty.

article x
Each of the Contracting Parties undertakes to exert appropriate efforts, consistent with the Charter of the United Nations, to the end that no one engages in any activity in Antarctica contrary to the principles or purposes of the present Treaty.

all expeditions must be approved by the host nations, and then given to the other member nations in advance of them for subsequent approval.

Lots of Flat Earthers claim it as a fact.

flat earthers are, largely, not real. they are agents and or products of a psyop. they repeat that “fact” because it was presented to them as such, like most all other claims of fact one might encounter.

earnest flat earth researchers may, of course, claim it as fact and have evidence to support their claim (a fact is merely one type of claim, after all). however, wether that fact is true or false doesn’t change the shape of the world - nor does the shape of the world depend on it being true (wether flat, round, or any other shape).

as i said, it’s all red herring to discussion/determination of the shape of the world anyhow.

I am not a flat-earther. I have never attempted to engage one in debate. It's because as soon as I realized flat earth theories were a thing, I instinctually knew that even if you took one to outer space or Antarctica to prove the world is an oblate spheroid, they will always have some bullshit reason to not believe their own eyes.

It's a waste of time and breath

I am not hostile toward flat earth believers.

I actually find their arguments interesting. It is the sunrise and sunset which makes me find their model unworkable.

they will always have some bullshit reason to not believe their own eyes.

To the naked eye, if one were to believe their own eyes, the earth does appear flat.
