My first girlfriend's sister was lured into Mormonism by bicycle dudes, left her home and went to Utah.
She eventually got out, and ended up railing against the church quite vociferously online.
One thing I never really thought of is this...Mormons are "nice", IF you are a guy. Because they don't care about men, they care about accumulating women. Mormons don't have women doing the proselytizing, do they?
Ever read A Study in Scarlet (first Sherlock Holmes work)? I read that really young, and it really left an impression.
Thanks for the anecdote. I knew all the Masonic/Jewish associations, and the scumbaggery of the founders, but I never knew the darkness carried over so close to the surface in the modern day.
I've never read any Sherlock Holmes, or even watched any adaptations other than the recent Benedict Cucumberpatch version. But I'll take up "Scarlet" as my first foray into it, on the lookout for it being something more than an entertaining detective story.
Thanks for the tips!
It's actually a great read. Doyle, as a Mason himself, really doesn't touch on the Masonic side of it, but perhaps a re-reading might present some clues.
I bought an really old copy of his book The White Company online like 20 years ago for 10 bucks, and sold it for $80 like ten years later. I couldn't get into it, and it's because the book is basically a Masonic allegory. Yet again, a second try might be warranted at some point.
Scumbaggery like you know something? By founders you must mean Brigham Young and his ilk. They killed the original leader while assassinating his character. Joseph Smith has done more for the salvation of mankind than any besides Jesus Christ himself. He laid the foundation for a great work which has yet to play out. Unfortunately, the church has been taken over by wicked men for now. When the California coast falls into the sea for judgment, Salt Lake City won't be far behind
I thought this was a pretty bad look: Mountain Meadows Massacre
Even there, they try to throw you off because it had nothing to do with the Utah War. This was just a wagon train of emigrants passing through. It's pretty gross when you read the full story, including lowlights like: false flag trying to pin it on Indians, theft, execution under a white flag of truce, and kidnapping.
It's almost unbelievable now, but many years ago I just stumbled into a docu-drama they made about it on Netflix. In probably 10-12 years since, I have never seen this incident mentioned a single other time.
