They are trying to kill art by lowering attention spans, and its working. I haven't met an "album" person in a while and only the "only the good parts" people.
An album is the way it is (in the old days) for only one reason. That's the way the musicians WANTED it to be. As the listener, we should honor that simple request. Its worth it.
So far i wanted to be a doctor when i was a kid (trashed profession) and a musician (trashed profession.) Glad i stuck with "laborer" as they will be needed right down to the last bomb.
I believe there are certain other, deeper factors at work, but in the immediate circumstance, as put by John Taylor Gatto, the ultimate imperative of the "educational system" is the extinction of the human imagination. Evidence for this is borne out in the following:
Suggested creationism (out of nothing) was fueled by those consenting to it; who are almost burned out. The few are now suggesting narratives to allow as much of the "created" to be burned with the many, after which creationism will be suggested once again towards fresh kindling.
Why is music like this no longer created?
Because sounds so modulated as to please the ear (suggested music) can only temporary distract from perceivable sound caused by the friction between velocity (process of dying) and resistance (living).
One represents the chaotic instrument (living) within the natural order of sound (process of dying)...others suggest music to distract from that like the Pied Piper of Hamelin for example.

Probably about eighty tunes we have written over the years, last one being eight years ago and the first being around twenty-four years ago. How does this legitimize or detract from me saying i agree with OPs summation? That's a ridiculous leap, man.
The proper thing to do would be to post a piece you believe is in the same class as Carmina Burana that's recent, even if its yours. Got anything or just being a douche?

I am a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with many local musicians and i even have an uncredited guitar part on a nationally known tune that you have 100% heard (anonymous by request and my anonymity on it will remain so, so don't bother asking, but i just heard it on the radio in the laundromat last weekend,) but what does that have to do with the question?
EDIT : Wanna know why I'm uncredited? Because i do not, and have not nor will i ever mix art and money. I refuse to be paid to play or record. It muddys the water of creativity EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME and as a result, I'd rather just do it for free with no credit because the band are buddies of mine.)

As a hobby I am a blacksmith and jeweler and am learning hand engraving.
That's why I was mocking OP. He complains about there being no creativiy anymore while obviously not engaging in any creative endeavour himself.
