Well, if only population size of a country meant anything, and by what metric, China, should it?
G7 is the group of major, highly developed industrial nations, which, although I love Brazil, it's not. It's almost 3rd world. China, for all it's (untrustworthy) economic statistics, is still not a developed county akin to say, England.
china is catching up VERY VERY QUICKLY in military might to the u.s. they are also modernizing their systems along with russia like crazy in the past 10 years. it's not looking good for us at all....
True, but then again, if we didn't meddle so much in foreign countries, we could have a military 1/2 its current size and still adequately defend our nation.

So far, China has only been able to copy the West's ideas. They haven't shown to be able to innovate 'the next step' in warfare.
China can catch up, but can't surpass, due to a lack of creativity within their power structure.
It's similar to North Korea, who is about 70 years late in creating nukes. Yeah, you've got them, but the rest of us have moved on to better things.
