Yeah I had no idea...the first recipe I found a few years ago had shortening...but then I had to try to find it...And they had lard and I saw it had a pie recipe on it and say awww fuck, I'll get that. Because I personally had bad feelings about shortening just because it seems like trash, like corn starch, corn meal etc. I don't think anyone in my family made a pie crust in front of me so I could see what they used when I was a kid. My pies came out amazing today. Made a cherry and an apple. FIL thoroughly enjoyed the cherry. I was worried it would taste porky...as my taste and smell are still fucked after 2+ years of covid crap...but it was great.
I’m not sure if it’s mustard gas- but it’s very true you shouldn’t mix the two, and even need to be super careful to not mix any other kitchen and bath cleaners together, without reading ingredients -carefully- to make you’re not inadvertently mixing ammonia and bleach. It’s an ammonia gas that is given off, and it’s deadly.
It’s so sensitive that once my mom washed towels used to dry up a bleach washed floor, with towels used to wash windows, and everyone in the house had bad headaches and what felt like burning lungs and had to open up the house for ventilation and stay outside until it cleared up.
Lots of people have died breathing in the fumes.
It’s usually one of the first things a parent teaches their kid when they go through teaching chores.
It’s right up with telling them to never give a kid under 2 honey (botulism spores some babies can’t handle) , or children under 10 aspirin in some circumstances. (Reye’s Syndrome). Some places say children under 19 shouldn’t be given aspirin- but Ive always heard the age 10-12 age range is off limits.
All these are things are just not something you can not take a chance with. So people usually learn it pretty early.
Also, dang that article shows the evilness of people. I guess it is one thing to do to save your own life, and another to use it to take power over another. I hope we never find ourselves in those situations.
Fertilizer shortage
ammonia b/c of the manufactured fertilizer shortage?
not conspiracy oriented, but interesting: https://newatlas.com/energy/green-ammonia-phosphonium-production/
Russia and China both halted exports of ammonia/fertilizer. This is going to lead to food shortages.
Couldn't find shortening this weekend for pie for the FIL. Ending up going with lard instead. But had to go to another store for that.
Lard is the original shortening. I prefer a lard/butter piecrust. Lard for crispiness, butter for flavor.

yeah shortening us hydrogenated 'vegetable oils' soybean oil, palm oils (seed oil).
Yep it's always with the shitty oils so I figured without even looking at the ingredients.
fertilizer shortage. russia exports a SHIT TON OF FERTILIZER to the world, mostly the united states
I saw in a cartoon that you shouldnt mix bleach with ammonia because it makes Mustard gas, like the shit that was banned after WWI

My bad, it’s chlorine gas not mustard gas… https://spartacus-educational.com/FWWchlorine.htm

Yes, chlorine gas makes much sense than ammonium gas. Thanks for that clarification.
Something like that. Don't use bleach to clean your restroom.
Pee on your crops.
It seems as though we have lost the ability to create chemicals. Do we usually get everything from China and Russia?
So much outsourcing and lost knowledge. :/
Thank the EPA
It's used to make fertilizer.
homebrew fertilizer?
AS YOUR CAT PISSES, SPRAY IT ON YOUR GARDEN LIKE YOU WOULD WITH A HOSE.
The Democrats fucked up oil production.
