That is an hour long documentary, where in there does it prove you must fast for at least 3 days? From everything I've read that is dangerous and unhealthy advice to any beginner into fasting.

I've seen many long discussions on the science and benefits of fasting from multiple different medical experts, and autophagy starts kicking in at 18hrs, so 18-48 hours is prime time for fasting.

If you are talking about stem cells that seems to happen later, but the benefit we are looking for here would be autophagy to clear out misfolded proteins. Here is some straight to the point information (with diagrams) from Dr Berg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhmtoAYVRSo

As I read further autophagy can vary based on your insulin sensitivity (if you are an obese diabetic you may need to get that under control first, or it will take longer), but someone easing into fasting using intermittent fasting will be able to get into autophagy in 18-24 hours.

two days is nothing

Try going in to work on Monday on your third day of a water fast and get back to me!

I've seen the charts on ketosis and there is plenty after 24 hours. If you want to deplete your glycogen faster eat low carb in the first place and exercise the day before. How fat adapted you are plays a role, that is why many doctors recommend doing regular intermittent fasting first to train your body (which I do).

The people I follow who talk about fasting say be careful doing more than 72 hours and to not do that too frequently. So I'm not just going to take your advice that "2 days is nothing" and yolo it. I need to be productive during the week and not get mineral deficient.

The metabolic switch typically occurs between 12 to 36 hours after cessation of food consumption depending on the liver glycogen content at the beginning of the fast, and on the amount of the individual’s energy expenditure/exercise during the fast.>

That agrees with me. Try reading my comment over again.

I've seen data showing ketosis shoots up and stays elevated by 24 hours in most people, so for someone fat adapted it could be as low as 12, which is what your paper is indicating. So from the 24-48 hour period that is over 24 hours of strong ketosis. If you break fast with a keto meal you will still be in ketosis.

No need for a 3 day or more fast for that.

You cited a second paper, that's nice but were you trying to make a point with it?
