Ultimately, I think we are all being dragged to some different state of consciousness and it's somewhat futile to try to hold back.
I disagree that it is futile, but I agree that we are to be distracted/amused and demoralized/desperate (if that can be considered a “different state of consciousness”).
Anything we do or do not do will just lead us to the same place.

We can blame this or that. We can hold out schadenfreude or fear. We can credit technology or medicine.
