Elon Musk is creating the Manhattan project of today. He is working with the globohomos....and Essentially building the Prison of the future.

He is not smart. In fact he is really dumb. He says stupid things....and never says anything smart....

People assume because he says 'snappy things' that he must be smart....because his PR people told him...

I have not heard him ever say an intelligent thing which is original....please. someone prove me wrong. An original Elon thought....do they exist?

If Musk didn't do this, someone else would

No someone wouldnt. Because no one else is receiving subsidies from governments and generating hype without delivering on promises. Not mentioning the environmental impact and space impact of those satellite launchings.

Explain why starlink will be better? You get possibly (if it even goes off well) a fraction of a difference in latecy (there is a limit...)......if....for what cost? Rediculous expense; Space Garbage; Increased Complexity of collisions and possible fallout effects; proprietary system with no way to debug it yourself; Monopolistic end goal; Possible human rights violations on the global scale; A new technocratic boundary that physically separated the haves from the have nots through a subscription model;

Then....

How about when someone else decides to compete.....?

I don't see a reason, perhaps you can enlighten me.

ISPs are not monopolies. They are independent and by design can setup your own subnet and just not connect to anyone else....not so with starlink so monopoly.

Viasat and Hughesnet require you to be experienced with installing the dish. So you will be needing a guy to come and install the whole setup and he will need to return when a storm hit and the dish moved a tad bit. He won't be doing that for free

for viasat that $70 gets you 12megabit/s and a whopping 40GB of data.

Yeah it doesn't make financial sense, Musk sells hot air and the last couple of years he's managed to direct all that hot air in to a couple of projects that will never make a buck when that time comes he'll be long gone.

Meanwhile you get fast internet in butt fuck nowhere where homesteading is affordable because land is cheap.

And no the military isn't going to use a publicly accessible network to control drones, it's far more likely half the starlink satellites are military use only using different bands.

I can't argue with that. I just read the news and it said, "Starlink satellites used to control Ukrainian drones"
