Is there anywhere where I can get an honest rundown of Russia/Ukraine relations? From what I know, something about Russia being geographically isolated if they can't control Ukraine, so losing it to NATO cripples their economy. How close am I?
I mean that's a large part of it yes. The main security threat is USA and NATO having nukes on the border ok Ukraine. Would be like Russia putting nukes in Mexico for a somewhat close comparison. But a lot of the conflict started in 2014 with the organization NED the National Endowment for Democracy. If you look up NED, look up their directors. CIA ran. Yet a non-governmental agency.. They basically say they are for democracy but then run regime changes.
The geographical isolation wouldve been from the crimea coup that Obama attempted in 2014. Its russias southern waterway access to the Mediterranean and if Russian didnt act they wouldve only had water access through baltic sea in the north

Second, and I was knee deep in the 2020 election theft material, and I never read/heard/recall anything about Ukraine helping the 2020 election theft.
I say this, too, as someone who is willing to let Soviet destabilization bygones by bygones at this point, and who is generally on Russia's side in this thing (with conditions, not that my voice matters to whatever the fuck Putin decides to do).

I suspect this whole thing is another attempt to push us into a false dichotomy. Some shill accounts are pushing Russia as good guys and others are pushing Ukraine as good guys. THis will lead to further division including along dem/rep lines. But there is plenty of evidence both are bad guys. We need to start resisting the repetitive good guy/bad buy narratives they keep pushing. Humans have a strong tendency towards tribalism and they are using that to manipulate us.
I think there is some good on both sides, but the more that comes out about the war, the more it seems that ukraine is uncontrollably corrupt.

I'm of the belief that the commies only work if they have to and only if someone will kill them if they dont.
