Much like that. In crypto, the 'whales' (big money) dump to drive prices down then rebuy cheaper after the slide when demoralized small fish sell off. In the other side of this, whales buy some at ridiculous prices to drive market hopes up then sell tons to the fear of missing out (FOMO) masses. After the whales halt, the market drops and the 'retail investors' are left holding the bag.
If you think that's bad, the gold and silver precious metals markets are total fraudulent because they allow paper commodities trading. So there's an f-wad of paper gold traded which pricewise does not match the price of real gold. JPMorgan does this partly together with government in order to keep gold down relative to the dollar. Fort Knox is a Potemkin village. It's very complex.
I saw one thing frequently that it was almost useable to play against.
There are bots which ride the price but never touch it. They are designed to float around it and provide occasional sells if a massive volume moves....otherwise they specifically adjust to ensure no movement unless big volume

70+ % of all trading on all exchanges is bots.
Guess this is news to college freshies.
Welcome to 21c.
Exactly. Has been for years.
