Ok. So, something of a conspiracy IMHO.
I see patriotism as one of the most ridiculous examples of brainwashing around. Only caring about the people inside your imaginary boundary lines isnt just tribal, it's backwards.
Honestly nothing funnier than a bunch of idiots staring at their flag singing their 'theme tune'.
Dont get me wrong, i like preserving traditions, but if your country is like a few hundred years old and founded on immigration it is pretty fucking dumb to be overtly patriotic. Not to mention the govt bootlicking side of it, which is of course, tragic.
I'm being facetious, hoping to hear both sides- i am definitely not a globalist!
Shared values, beliefs, traditions and goals are not 'imaginary lines'.
Ok. Do you share the same beliefs, values, traditions, goals as other Americans (or whatever nationality you are?) From here your country looks pretty divided... Do you share any of those things with people in other countries?
I'm in the UK (England, specifically). Pretty divided here also!
To me, patriotism isn't about loyalty to any one nation, or country; it is about loyalty to a set of ideals and values (cultures).
It used to be that the flag represented this coming-together in the pursuit of these shared ideals. These days, it seems, each respective flag implies nothing more than an arbitrary and imaginary border between locations.
the world was better when each culture had their own traditions and nations. Modern 'multi-culturalism' has eliminated any sense of togetherness and has only caused more division.
However, this apparently makes me a racist.
I agree multi-culturalism has caused huge division, but patriotism is definitely specifically about having loyalty to your country, it is literally what it means, no?
Patriotism is the banding together for self-preservation in a tough world, where one person alone has far less chance of survival but a group has better chances.
I'll take that over being a free spirit picking daisies while the bear charges me.
Isn't it pretty arbitrary though? I mean it literally just comes down to where you are born...
We choose who to bond with. A lot of times a kid, a teenager, will reject the values where they are born and seek where they can join others with their values, right or wrong. In the worst cases of this, someone joins a gang and is 'patriotic' to the gang. In the best cases, someone cares for the values of their country and bands with others to protect it. True American values have some nobility and strength, which is why the Marxist Left wants to disrupt them by subverting kids and destroying family values.
Bro, I am sorry you are so butt hurt. Please enlighten me how the USA is not predominantly founded on immigration. Are you saying indigenous Americans account for way more than the 2% we are told?
You know that European means 'from Europe' right?
Just asking as your reply seems to contradict itself.
May be you just mixing dumb worshipping to authorities and their attributes with love to your place of birth/growing/living, people around, local nature and other nice things? It is completely different things, never mix them in one term.
Fair point. I do see those things as somewhat intertwined and often lumped together and I agree they are not necessarily.
If you truly believe in what your country stands for then it is a great thing. Your culture and history can be something to be very proud of, especially if your ancestors participated. As an American our country has strayed so far from the reason the Revolutionary War was fought and the principles the country was founded on. We are at a point where there will be a great reset one way or another. Either the country will snap back to what it once was, probably after much suffering and bloodshed, or it will be destroyed.
Pol Pot is a patriot. Imperial Japan is a Patriot Regime used to commit mass atrocities. And so is Mussolini and Hitler.
To a lesser extent, Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim II Sung were OBVIOUSLY Nationalists (and American conservatives drool over their political model as they hate the person behind them).
The corrupt and fascist democrat administration of pedo joe biden has the majority of the stupid democrat party supporters supporting persecution and jailing of journalist and political adversaries, suppression and censure of inconvenient or incriminating information, use of overt propaganda on the populace and many other fascist actions. Democrats are the stupidest people around, they are far more fascist than any other political side in US politics.
LOL a perfect display of... https://www.livescience.com/amp/18132-intelligence-social-conservatism-racism.html
Ooo looks like you pissed off a bunch of "patriots" with this post. And by "patriots" I mean barely internet literate boomers and outside nations pretending to be Americans in order to continue to divide us from within. But you're spot on. These are the same people that will kill over their preferred regional sportsball team and give 10% of their income to the pedophile organization known as the church. You know, morons.
Yep, not surprised. Cognitive dissonance. Was hoping for a bit more rationality but I guess too much butt-hurt for most, I kind of figured it would be.
The US was founded by Northern Europeans. If the US had retained its Northern European roots, patriotism would matter. Since it hasn't (by design) patriotism is retarded.
One could say the same thing about religion. Isn't it brainwashing too? A religion any person follows is almost always a result of where they are born, rather than a logical evaluation of its beliefs by said person. If their belief precedes their justification for it, then it is brainwashing by definition.
However, patriotism has its uses. Generally if country X is not united but country Y is, country Y will use its collective strength to extort/subvert/exploit country X.
The same dynamic is seen in religion. Islam and Christianity vs Hinduism or Buddhism for example. Which has replaced which?
Yes. Religion and patriotism are both forms of brainwashing. It's no surprise that the most religious Americans are also the most patriotic and the most likely to believe in things like flat earth and QAnon. They're simpletons and don't have what it takes to not become taken advantage of.
There are definitely parallels between organised religion and patriotism. You are generally indoctrinated in some way into both, likely since the day you were born, making it very difficult to lift the veil later on, especially if you live in an echo chamber of MSM bullshit, or only read your own country's news reports...
