The only way to deal with them would be to get medieval, impaling, crucifying, and colonising. Wipe them out. The west doesn't do that today. They create stupid narratives that the Taliban don't give one little shit about. So instead they are left with a bunch of dumb refugees and a hostile population there is no point in statically defending. Easier just to drop bombs on them, until somebody makes some terms of trade or whatever.
Russia wasn't willing to do the Afghanistan in the 1980s what they did to Nazi Germany to win, and if U.S isn't willing to do to Afghanistan what we did to Imperial Japan to win.
Frankly, we should have just helped the Northern Alliance to defeat the Taliban, like we did in 2002, and then left. But barbarian goat herders must be made to have a western democracy or something said the neo-cons.
It's a cluster fuck in there of opposing opportunity and vacuum for any trade. A nation caught in a crossroads of opposition and lawlessness. But then the antsy media cries there's no democracy, as any tyrant although they keep the gravvy flowing often gets grandiose ideas where they faster arm opposingly, selling to the competition, and they create these little terrorist training schools of sand dervishes.
In either case the only way to deal with them is often too just bomb them until they adopt much better terms.
