Wanting to identify who administers a website that's doing shady shit is the only way to trace back to who is behind it.
Skipping to the likely ending, it's the old money families that own all of the big corporations through their "family offices" and "investment funds"... but it would still be useful to be able to prove it. Exposing them is one of the best ways to make them back off. They don't like publicity.
