Keep in mind the vast majority of accounts posting threads about this (and explicitly calling for bans) are very young accounts (OP was 9 hours old at time of posting) or sleeper accounts with age but no karma.
We're very wary of taking responsibility for subjective content moderation as a platform, when these forums will die out on their own within days due to their unpopular ideas anyway.
This is part of a recent change to combat vote manipulation, it's not a permanent solution. It was mentioned on the changelogs: https://communities.win/p/12iNisblbB/minor-changes-to-voting/
Discarding votes is a big deal - we never want to do it, but as a short term solution, it was necessary.
Are you referring to the new warning when sending a private message?
Perhaps we need to carefully reword it, because you seem to misunderstand what it's saying. It is merely a warning to our users to NOT share private information in private messages with other users, because IN THEORY we (Win staff) and attackers could read the contents. We don't, we haven't, and we definitely don't share it with third parties, but the fact is that we have the ability to, and we don't want you to trust us with private information.
This isn't true at all, there have been many communities created and the vast majority have been good.
