There was numerous airforce clashes (real, with shooting and may be even with shot down planes) between Turkey and Greece, both NATO countries. Nothing happened, it was just sweeped under the rug, and nobody in Europe allowed to talk about that at the time.
Since NATO is a purely commercial organsation built to sell US weapons and license US military standards to Europe, I highly doubt US will ever abandon NATO in any way. Without NATO nobody need overpriced and inferior US MIC production.
On the opposite, it is probable that now US will force other NATO members to significantly rise weapons and license purchases.
In the worst case, it would be wrapped into some narrative, say, something like "Greenland is a colony, Denmark reject its colonial past and allow inhabitants to choose own way, unlike all that totalitarians and dictators everybody don't like".
USA government and MIC needs NATO much more than Europe. EU already trying to create some EU own military structures, and somehow ressurect own MIC. USA on the opposite, will prefer complete destruction of EU manufacturing to sell more weapons.
Notice that USA MIC will sell weapons to Europe for USD. USD market shrinked significantly, and USA elites need some replacement for petrodollar scam to continue to export inflation. They urgently need somebody who will value USD for something, in case of NATO it is weapons.

Yes, but this is different. The US provides more than 60% of NATO funding. Now it's about money...
NATO is on its last leg, IMO. 🪦RİP

Clash vs a full-scale takeover, and publicly announced for the world to see.
