Checking reddit conspiracy new tab. A guy was trying to bad-mouth gold.. saying.. "the USD has collapsed and gangs are running in the street like mad max movies. And you need to buy a bag of grain? How do you do it? Do you carry a hacksaw and slice a part of the gold biscuit". No, it's Combibar 50 g (media.scored.co)

When I first heard of these, oh.. let me get a date on this image file. 2013. What was the price of gold then. Not too bad.. around 1500 USD an ounce. It's fuckin 4200 USD right now.

Let me check this..

A 50-gram bar is equivalent to about 1.6075 troy ounces.

"A 50-gram CombiBar would likely have retailed for roughly $2,250 to $2,500 USD throughout most of 2013, depending on the month and the specific dealer's premium."

I remember they were like 3600 CAD.

Asking gemini, it was saying.. "Therefore, the 50g CombiBar would have cost between $2,500 CAD and $2,650 CAD depending on which month you purchased it." I'm there.. no I'm talking about CAD, not USD that you said before. Then it was like, no, that's what it was. And I thought, oh yeah..

Looking at a historical CAD to USD chart.. was this odd time where it was like 1 dollar, like in the 70's. Now it's 71 cents.

Whatever.. these fuckin things would probably cost a lot now. And even worse in CAD. Let's check.

Ouch.. USD (United States Dollar) $7,050 to $7,300 CAD (Canadian Dollar) $9,700 to $10,100

Oh you can get just 1g pieces.. I'm there, they're gonna rip you off, compared to what a 50g credit card sized would cost.

This is the estimated price for buying a single 1-gram Valcambi gold bar at retail, which reflects the high premium for fractional gold.

(Single 1g Bar)USD (United States Dollar)$163 to $180 USD CAD (Canadian Dollar)$210 to $240 CAD

50 Individual 1-Gram Bars (If bought separately) $12,250 CAD

Getting ripped off a couple grand there. Meanwhile, you coulda bought the whole fucking thing for that in 2013.

ok let's just do the 50g card, divide by 50..

$141.50 USD for 1 gram $197.00 CAD for 1 gram

So.. 200 bucks.. that's a lot of loaves of bread. Well, you could get a good grocery run with 200 bucks. Could pay for that with 1g, right. By the single 1g "bar" though, you're getting ripped off an extra 40, which is not good. Who's got fuckin 10k though to buy a whole fuckin card, these days, if you're working for minimum wage. lol.

But yeah.. this guy here.. let me get that thread.

https://old.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/1pbr1x5/the_gold_scam/

Trying to find a video about this.. where they show you breaking them. Seeing, "Valcambi CombiBar - The New Gold Standard in Gold". Video is dated, Mar 26, 2013 The innovative 50 gram gold bar is easily divisible into 50 one gram minibars.

So when I got that pic, this shit was new. That's kinda neat.. you don't see anywhere, that you can buy like a fuckin loaf of bread with damn real gold. That guy in the thread doesn't know about this shit. And if you try and do coins, whatever.. that's not this grocery run type level.

Gold coins are fuckin stupid.. let me check a canadian mint one and see what it says on the back for what they'd be worth if you try to buy something with it. lol.

Holy fuck is this ever stupid.. from the royal canadian mint.. mint.ca

2026 GML – 1 oz. 99.99% Pure Gold Coin (Bullion)

"The Royal Canadian Mint’s Gold Maple Leaf (GML) coins are among the world’s most popular pure gold coins."

"All 1-ounce 99.99% pure GML bullion coins dated 2026 will have three unique features for enhanced security—radial lines, a micro-engraved maple leaf and Bullion DNAᵀᴹ Anti-Counterfeiting Technology.

Bullion DNAᵀᴹ Anti-Counterfeiting Technology is an industry first that goes above and beyond coin authentication like no other. Every die used to produce GML coins is laser micro-engraved with an anti-counterfeiting security mark. Our registration process—digital non-destructive activation (DNA) technology—captures images encrypted with an algorithm signature, and stores these in our secure database. This proprietary Bullion DNAᵀᴹ technology facilitates the authentication of Gold Maple Leaf coins dated 2014 and later."

Looking this up..

Check this out though.. lol..

Face Value $50

lol.. go to the store with one of these..

"The price of a 1-ounce Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) Gold Maple Leaf coin is dependent on the fluctuating gold spot price, but its premium is generally quite low because it is a highly recognized investment-grade coin."

Costs.. lol.. $6,100 to $6,300 CAD. But you try to use it at the store, the guy would look at the back and say, ok that's worth 50 bucks. ROFL.

Wait.. what's this..

🌟 The Role of Face Value on Bullion The face value on a coin like the Gold Maple Leaf is not meant to reflect its market price, but serves two primary purposes:

  1. Establishes Legal Tender Status A face value (like $50 CAD) is required by law for the coin to be considered legal tender in Canada.

This means that, in a purely technical sense, the coin must be accepted as payment for a debt of $50 CAD. Of course, no one would ever use a $6,300 coin to pay a $50 bill! The low face value ensures the coin is not used for circulation.

This legal tender status also gives the Royal Canadian Mint the sole authority to manufacture and guarantee its content.

  1. Provides Tax Advantages (in certain jurisdictions) In some countries (or under specific tax laws, like Capital Gains Tax rules in some regions), items classified as legal tender may receive preferential tax treatment compared to generic bullion bars (like the CombiBar, which has no face value).

For Canadian investors, this is a particularly attractive feature.

Back to that thread.. at the end he says, "Your gold is worthless if the USD collapses and there is a mad max style environment." What do you guys think?

In general I am pro gold, but if I were a merchant and the dollar collapsed and you showed up with a 50g combi bar and attempted to break off a piece to pay me, I'd either tell you either to fuck off or rob you.

Silver makes more sense for daily commerce, but if the shit hits the fan, lead* and food reign supreme.
