While individual merchants and planters participated, the claim that Jews "controlled" the trade is false and is an antisemitic canard. Jews owned slaves and engaged in the trade as traders and suppliers, but their involvement was not disproportionate to their small population size, and other groups were far more dominant in the slave trade.
