Charlie was big enough for Trump to tweet about his death, that's quite significant. They do NOT want the D.C class getting out of line.

The reason a journalist is important is they influence public opinion via the media. Charlie Kirk has a large media presence and currently works for them. They care about what the masses think about them, it's what their power rests on. So yes Mr Kirk matters to them. The president of the USA eulogized his death, that's not some nobody.
