It would be fairer to say they have an unevolved soul more like that of an animal who isn't ready to handle complex psycho processes so they let those be taken charge externally.

There is also trauma dissociation at play where a soul can be disconnected harshly and not have as much power to manifest. It becomes 'sleepy' as the connection breaks down.

The end result in both cases would be the same, becoming hetero directed without being able to take notice.
