The Pharisees were the "separated ones" in conflict with the Sadducees (ṣāḏaq; to be right; just). The issue...thanks to separation, the Pharisees gained more control over the common people (gentiles), than the Sadduccees, who used a king to control the common people, as a shield for themselves as the upper class.
Pharisee or Sadducee represents an internal jewish conflict about using a sovereign over the gentile commonwealth or make each jew the sovereign among the gentile commonwealth.
As for the gentiles...one cannot see far (pharisee) if one joins others, and one cannot be just (sadducee) while at odds with one another within conflicts of reason.
Without discerning this for self...a gentile remains a slave to a jewish master by free will of choice.
