There was no any Tartaria here. There was and is Tataria - land where tatars live. It have nothing to do with "Tartaria" - fictional land that could be found on ancient maps.

This "Tartaria" shit comes from ancient cartographers who right with each other on the market of selling maps. Who would buy a map with just boring towns, rivers, hills and fields, if there will be a map with "Tartaria" and "Here live dragons" and naked murmaid in the corner.

"Tartaria" comes from ancient greek "tartar" - hell. Europeans like scary things.

Cartographers was too lazy and greedy to research and map endless Russian lands, so just put scary and misterious "tartatia" on the map. Who would check? That's all. No any mistery, no any enigma. Only business.
