You need two books to understand inflation:

These are good books, but not econometrically solid. For actual econometric proof one has to study actual econometric banking historians. Bernholz is the master, but there are many others, such as modern counterparts Steve Keen and Richard Werner.
They have the actual, numerical, empirical PROOF. Not just stories and claims. Although the story tellers do get a lot right too, it's just that it is not proof by itself.
