They are using a third party intercept, here it's skype other popular long distance video/chat providers include, whatsapp(facebook/meta), discord and Zoom, off the top of my head, and all those companies will get to make the rules. I'm no expert on long distance calls and whose in charge (jurisdiction) but safe best is to assume it can be discontinued/disabled.

Sounds like a bad deal. My computer is fast enough to capture, encode and encrypt video. We don't need a server to control things
