When wiki first came out, everyone I knew thought it was so much better. Granted it hadn't been political then. But, libraries don't even teach how to research the way I learned anymore.
When I was little we had book marks with our name, and we were supposed to put the name of the book we removed from the shelf on them so we could put the book back where it belongs. I went to school after I had kids, and a librarian flipped out seeing me put my own book back.
She was absolutely amazed that I was doing what I just described. She went and got the rest of the staff. They decided they didn't want others to see me putting books back, because no one else was trained to do it appropriately. I can also use a physical card catalog.
They don't teach it anymore. It's all digital, and paying for digital IP access is expensive.
That's actually how all of the libraries used to work in the country I used to live during 70s and early 80s....
Everybody knew how to use the DDC, retrieve and put books back to their proper place, and everybody did so (or 99% did).
Compare: Last week I had to work organizing things alphabetically and some of the people couldn't even put things in alphabetical order anymore. They said it was just too cumbersome to look up the alphabet on their phone and run it from the start until they hit the letter they were looking for.
What can I say?
If we are not already at the depths of Kali Yuga, may lord help us all. We are descending back to the level of apes.
People have become so insanely stupid, unintelligent, incapable of basic intellectual effort that it is no wonder 95% of people can be herded like sheep even straight to their own doom.

I read an article last week, they're stupider than we think. The masking of babies made the already dumb iPad babies dumber.
