A dog must have eaten the formula for the magic heat shield compound used on Apollo.

Possibly.

This sounds legit to me though. For one, the heatshield is bigger than apollos.

  1. The old heatshields were pretty much completely fabricated by hand, these are 3d printed or something and then hand assembled.

  2. According to this article, part of the issue was doing a skip reentry.

The article does bring up a good point. The problem wasnt the shield burning up, its supposed to do that. The problem im guessing was the chunks coming off and sticking to things like the glass, or potentially a fuel/oxygen tank or something critical.

:shrugs: who knows though.

It's supposed to burn up. It's not supposed to break into chunks as soon as it hits the outer atmosphere.

The old way was "too expensive" and "labor intensive". How much $ and labor have they wasted so far with this new approach?

It makes a lot more sense that we never went to the moon, and none of the old tech actually worked.

LOOK! PANDEMIC 2.0! We regret to inform everyone that the recent pandemic delayed our flight to the moon. Oh no! The lead astronaut died in the pandemic and we need to start over. 6 more years...

ablative head shield doesn't work in a vacuum

Uh… it also wouldn’t be needed in one. That’s not the point. The point is that it’s needed when no longer in a vacuum.

OK ---- then why mention "Moon reentry 40% faster than LEO"

Completely different systems.

Because he’s a flat earther and should be ignored.

When returning from the moon vs low earth orbit, the reentry speeds are higher, which means more energy to deal with for the heat shield.
