Since humans discovered that they could draw, carve and scratch images on different surfaces, they began to draw, carve and scratch everything they see around. Night sky is one of the most imteresting, miraclous and entertaining things that humans see pretty often. Really it's strange that ancient star maps are not as frequent as they could be. :)
I see nothing exceptional in that finding at all.
Exceptional finding would be if somebody will find ancient sky map that is not coincide with Earth skies, but with high precision coincide with sky map of some other planet in different star system. That will be very interesting.
Well, this could even be a nice research topic - find out sky maps of discovered exoplanets and search through all human imaging ancestry for them. With modern computers and image processing it should not be very hard thing to do. If I would have been an archeologist or around, I would definitely bet for grant for that research. :) Even if it will give negative result, it would be fascinating work. And if a result would be positive.... Well, I dreaming too much today. :)
