Tried sending an email to my real email address with one of those trash mail online things and it went straight to spam filter so that isn’t an option.

Sms is back to phone numbers. TextNow is blocking the codes for that unless you pay with non pre paid credit card, which goes right back to not a private option.
That's why I said it's important to pay attention to what your actual needs are. No one wants to deal with a problem at every step.
I was saying not to use SMS (use Authy instead)
What do you think of it? Because it's a middleman which is just bad for privacy / security. Don't forget, I've admitted that my kids have to use my phone number. I have had to think about what this means.
Oh, I recommend using a tool like Authy for sure - it uses a time-based algorithm to generate a code based on a secret whose hash is stored at a service provider (like a secondary password), so there is no service involved in generating the codes. You scan a QR code (or enter the code manually) into Authy and then you're good to go without any internet connection required to generate codes. There are open source alternatives also, but Authy is worth a try.
