Yeah, it's the illusion of choice, if your service provider has opted in you are by default involved. Also I didn't see a way to bypass clicking 'ok' at the bottom of the alert and it bothers me.
I do not have a carrier locked device. Although yesterday I was asking questions. People experienced what you alluded to. They turned the setting off, and their carrier turned it back on. They are clearly not the administors of their devices.
That isn't the issue I had. I only turned off tests. So when the Alert came as an actual emergency, I was pissed enough to turn everything off.
Did you still have to click ok?
It's a radio button.
I use it in place of a laptop. I would struggle to not have one.
Buy a used laptop. Cheaper than most phones. Toss your simcard in the river.
