When my spouse, who is canadian, went on vacation in the states, their dad would tell them. Do not look at the truckers, or anyone else, do not make them mad, etc. He was terrified, and this was 30 years ago that they might piss someone off and get shot.
I suspect back then it was mainly propaganda to keep people from looking towards america and getting any ideas about abandoning the crown, imo.

Actually British security guards still try to stop shoplifters and British shop staff will literally chase you out the door if they think you shoplift. The incident recently was a flash mob where hundreds of feral blacks simply ran riot. Obviously a shop can’t stop a whole flash mob.
However here in America stores won’t even stop a lone shoplifter whereas in Britain they absolutely do. Staff in British shops actively monitor the self service checkouts and people have been charged with a crime for stealing a loaf of bread in England. One flash mob with blacks running riot does not make Britain’s attitude toward shoplifting worse than America where DeShawn can literally just walk into a shop and walk out with a whole cart of unpaid goods without being challenged.
