you bring up a very important fact. 2 eyes 2 ears a mouth is a feature all higher formed creatures have here on earth. if mainstream science is to trusted it would be near impossible for a creature from another planet to follow the same evolutionary pattern like here. if evolution and modern cosmology are right creatures on other planets would have a completely different evolutionary process. meaning they would not look like us at all.

probably flat:

absorb (or protect from) radiation from above
feed or use the ground
simplest form, making it more likely
in an environment with line-of-radiation remote sensing, lower would be safer.
a flat form would have other advantages (maximal edges, potential floating on gas or liquid)
