creatures on other planets would have a completely different evolutionary process.

probably flat:

absorb (or protect from) radiation from above
feed or use the ground
simplest form, making it more likely
in an environment with line-of-radiation remote sensing, lower would be safer.
a flat form would have other advantages (maximal edges, potential floating on gas or liquid)
