It is fairly simple, the actions of the people empower the group, so as long as the people stay waylaid then it is likely the actions continue unabated.
However, there is always costs and changes that are unseen until they are present and demanding.
So many things that are in society reveal that they lack the control they desire. The intent to produce more control is the biggest indicator.
Things* that are even under control are not operating as they want for complete control and that is what is being iterated on in this era.
What I suspect is going to happen is they are going to again break the attempt and this will result in another failure to grab the control they want.
If we were in a full on communist society, then I would maybe suggest their pyramid is strong, but as it stands now, they have no foundation and are building into the sky, this is doomed to fail.
