As is sometimes mentioned, quality on r/conspiracy has flatlined. Every so often I have occasion to reference a post only 3-4 years old, and for many of them I think, "I can't believe I've forgotten how high quality many of the posts here used to be."
It has occurred to me that this is an application of the principle that, "The bad drives out the good." As far as the Elites are concerned, they'll take any strategy if it's effective. Just flood the zone with nonsense and negativity.
