Every time Butler comes up, I like to note two little known facts:
One is that he is one of only nineteen service members twice awarded the Medal of Honor, and for separate combat actions. Previous to that, he was also awarded the Marine Corp Brevet Medal. Marines at that time were ineligible for the Medal of Honor, but it is considered an equivalent award. That would make him the one and only "three time" winner.
Also, he was eventually driven out out the military. Must have bee for something very serious indeed, right? Well, Butler recounted a story about riding in a car with Mussolini when he ran over and killed a child without even bothering to stop.
Anyway, let this be a lesson to any past, present, or future US service members: it does not matter who you are or what you've done, your government will fuck you over as hard as they like if you cross them.

In this book written well before WWII, he said it would happen and it happened with who he said and how he said.
Short read and well worth your time. I recommend it even though I read it years ago.
