Over a million subscribers; a two weeks old vid with 5.8 million views; conspiracies in entertainment format...definitely fishy.

I like this channel a lot. It can be a little annoying because sometimes he gives a crazy theory as if it’s fact but then debunks it at the end, while other videos he just tells the whole story from the get go.

But I like the topics and the delivery. The fish was annoying at first but grew on me and now I enjoy it

That is exactly my problem...makes a believable tale that you skeptically listen too...then he debunks it halfway through. If he knows it's fake up front, just say so up front.

From their description:

"Do you have natural curiosity, interest in scientific mysteries and a great sense of humor? You're in the right place! We cover brainy topics with comedy spin.

I'm AJ , the Head Nerd In Charge. You might know me from the Discovery, Sirius-XM, A&E, MTV and Joe Rogan.

The Why Files is a channel for people who are fascinated (obsessed) with science, science-fiction, bizarre history, weird facts, strange places, conspiracies and unusual people. Join us as we learn about the mysteries of the universe and have a few laughs along the way."

Definitely not independent.

I like them. good format, well researched, good segways, the banter with the fish is great. him and his wife are doing a good job creating an entertaining format that's engaging for these topics. Most people aren't going to learn these niche topics unless they interact with website and people like this one and this bunch... and they uploaded a video explaining their history like a month ago... I appreciate what they're doing at least... where else would you learn about the ever elusive catcrab?

edit: That said, this is prolly them asking this corner of the internet with a throwaway account, trying to gauge their "reach" so to speak and whether they're perceived as controlled op or not, which is unfortunate cus i've had little to disagree with in any of their videos, and it's something my mom could watch and enjoy and get educated on some of these niche topics.

I don't like how, for instance, he knows something is a fake, but the first half is "this happened" then the pause, and then the "but...."

If you know shit is fake up front, just say it.

fair, but it's gotta come up with enough interesting content to get them youtoob dollaridoos... like... this definitely isn't just a public service on their part... I thought of it more as him covering the legends and myths and trying to give them whatever credit they can, and then the second part is kinda a clarifier, not necessarily intending to debunk the myths/legends/conspiracies, but just adding more research/context/insight... sometimes the conspiracies are fake, and it's not like he can make a video on atlantas every week, although some folks seem to, not that their wrong, but my point is coming up with episodes that always end with the conspiracy not being disproven is inherently rare... and I think he wouldn't be doing justice to the viewer not educating them initially on the topic and then not presenting more information... just starting out with "hey there's this conspiracy, but don't worry, it's all fake." out of the gate isn't going to keep anyone watching, hense no yutoob dollaridoos. Hey, they're getting paid for spouting the conspiracies everyone's read about on these niche websites all these years, and making it entertaining for normies, I think it's worth some merit.

Ha! I’ve been watching him, I find him to be interesting and engaging, but I don’t consider him a heavy hitter. I also am enjoying the Universe Inside You channel, I consider them heavier hitters. Both are thought provoking, but researched and presented in different ways.

I consider him and his channel a great way to introduce Normies and kids in a fun, family friendly way to thinking outside the box, opening their minds, etc.

Obviously grifting or controlled op.

Its run by a company. They are doing the formulaic stuff....disregard imo

I don't think it's company, it's some dude on Youtube. The Why Files website is something else.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Production values, the amount he must spend on promotion, his subscriber count, the amount of money he makes...taxes.. etc

Maybe sold it, or built it ..but it's not independent anymore.
