This study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17143117/ was not trying to estimate the total number of incidences when they came up with the 1,101 figure. 1,101 is what they found in the literature.

This study https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.108.804617 did attempt to estimate the total number of incidence (from 1980 to 2006) and came up with 1,866.
