iv been looking into this a little myself. Radiation in general is a somewhat misunderstood concept. Radiation itself is a term used to describe the effects of an objects electro magnetic field. Basically the amount of heat produced by it

different objects have different field strengths and frequencies, some can penetrate deeper thru objects ect (which is just the transfer of heat or light)

this is why plutonium is hot to the touch.

see a nuclear plant is basic a giant steam turbine. they make these hot rod, dump em in water, the water boils and becomes steam and the turbines spin and make energy. what these rods could be used for is so much else. like creating unlimited free energy/heat in frozen places, under developed places. it would break the world wide energy monopoly. so with all that said, on to the topics of nukes. so if you were to take a radioactive rod and bang it against another on. the two electromagnetic fields will cause a explosive reaction. (tons of heat and light will be released all at once)
