There is the core esoteric philosophy (Steiner and the inner circle), and the schools such as Waldorf and Montessori are almost viewed as normies. They are the exoteric daughter circles. If they drift too far away from their original core esoteric, then the schools or organizations just become part of the crowd and lose the special spark. Either way, I'm not surprised the schools, which applied the philosophies were unaware of their full beliefs. Both are necessary.
Steiner had a lot of enemies, was a tortured figure, and was probably poisoned.
But, to counter the shills that popped up in this thread (not you, buddy), Steiner was actually quite bright and probably one of the world's experts on Goethe. Goethe was an important genius.
He wrote books on pretty much every topic - from agriculture, architecture, medicine, education, spirituality, etc.
In his view, there are two Adversaries, one a materialistic devil figure and the other a cold emotionless AI type figure, from what I recall.
If the children since the 1890s were noticeably appearing soulless, he and the woman are speculating about how/why it was happening. He thought that perhaps a walk-in spirit (not soul) is using the body as a puppet. Or perhaps not enough souls were incarnating so, for example, a tree energy spirit would go into a human shell. Or a former hornet. These would not have had countless human lifetimes to be... human. They still retain the 'hornet' or 'demon spirit' lack of empathy.
You could definitely be correct that we call them psychopaths. But it is interesting that they noticed the change around the 1890s.

Maria Montessori is far from esoteric. She was Christian and in her method, writings and teachings she differs hugely from Steiner. I'd say Montessori was rather rational with common human values. To me she also does not appear as somebody who would participate in the occult in any way. At some point in her life Mussolini was her enemy and Gandhi her friend.
The anthroposophical view is that good is found in the balance between two polar influences on world and human evolution.
These are often described through their mythological embodiments as spiritual adversaries which endeavour to tempt and corrupt humanity, Lucifer and his counterpart Ahriman. These have both positive and negative aspects.
Lucifer is the light spirit, which "plays on human pride and offers the delusion of divinity", but also motivates creativity and spirituality; Ahriman is the dark spirit that tempts human beings to "...deny [their] link with divinity and to live entirely on the material plane", but that also stimulates intellectuality and technology.
Both figures exert a negative effect on humanity when their influence becomes misplaced or one-sided, yet their influences are necessary for human freedom to unfold.

My mistake, the two Adversaries are:
Chirst is the middle way.
