The oldest known work of this type, The Halliwell Manuscript, also known as Regius Poem, dates from between 1390 and 1425. I am afraid this is lore. They are trying to fill in the gaps and make them more important than they are. It is the same as the Black Athena theory, namely Goddess Athena being from Africa and not Greek (ROFL), or the modern $cience that has shown that we all originate from Africa; how to emotionally compensate the African people they shat on for hundred of years).
Modern Freemasonry is just a dinner club.

The Premier Grand Lodge, which became the United Grand Lodge of England, was founded at the Goose and Gridiron Pub in London in 1717.
Not even UGLE of course knows the truth.
