There is no real start date to Freemasonry, although teh official history is offered by UGLE, which is the mother lodge of all other lodges.
The Premier Grand Lodge, which became the United Grand Lodge of England, was founded at the Goose and Gridiron Pub in London in 1717.
Not even UGLE of course knows the truth.
Lore goes that at some point along the forgotten past Jews who wished to avoid religious prosecutiion (Christians were too stupid to realise their religion is a Jewish herecy) infiltrated masonic lodges and incorporated many of their tokens and language.
The amalgamation led to a new type of society which was named Freemasonry to distinguish themself from traditional masonry.
