It is good that they didn't push you but it is scary that they asked you to do something that they think is a bad idea.
I think they were obligated to ask/offer it. My emphatic 'nooooo' probably resulted in them opening up about it a bit. Either way though, scary times.

My opinion, in 30 years when the people who did this are either dead or in a nursing home, they will own up to it. Well, the new people will.
