It's NOT a chemical imbalance or at the very least there is NO data to prove it as there is NO way to centrally measure such neurotransmitters.
All we have are tagged/radio labelled proxy studies of circulation and oxygenation.
The SSRI researchers silently admit that many SSRIs that have a small effect (for a while) seem to do so based on neurogenesis, not due to SSRI altering function.
So, just as you correctly state: meditation, exercise, fresh air, grounding, proper circadian sleep cycle, proper diet, sunshine and novel mental/sensory stimuli do the same as the best of antidepressants (neurogenesis and increase in blood circulation / brain activity), but at a higher efficacy level and with less or no side effects (other than getting "more life").
Read again: There is not a single study showing a method of measuring central nervous system neurotransmitter levels in a living organism. Not before or after SSRI treatment. Thus, what they have with SSRI causal effect is an (as of yet) untestable hypothesis. No proof.
If it was a chemical imbalance (or at the very least, if evidence existed to substantiate that claim), The Experts would be able to define what chemicals are out of balance and by how much. However, if you ask an Expert this question you will see a charlatan get flustered. Trust the Science(TM)
Fuck you Rolling Stone and all the people who work for it.
"SSRIs probably result in little to no difference in fatigue (MD ‐0.06; 95% CI ‐1.24 to 1.11; 4 studies, 5524 participants, moderate‐quality of evidence), nor in quality of life (MD 0.00; 95% CI ‐0.02 to 0.02, 3 studies, 5482 participants, high‐quality evidence)."
Good luck in trying to smear Cochrane, which is your pet darling.
It's pain, physical, abuse, regret, and, often loss. Trauma. Stress. Some things you can't heal. There is no cure. Although those drugs sometimes provide an equilibrium. A fix. Like any other form of escapism. Although mostly they increase something and decrease something else. Becoming slower killers, but many are dying inside anyway. There is supposed balance, but where is it today? You're suggesting finding joy, suggesting these things cause it, diet, exercise, sunlight, pets, they're another fixation, because joy is much easier to say, and much harder too achieve. Sometimes it is impossible to find. What often pisses people off more are these self help gurus, and life coaches. They're so far up their own spouts. How their life is so wonderful because they never experienced what another has. It has never even occurred to them. They talk all about themselves and how nice it is. Yea fuck off. It's all bullshit anyway.
Yea those drugs cause a high, but they deprive other functions. Many eat away at other chemicals and hormones, causing loss that can cause cancer and lead to death. Many times it causes the people taking them to get even crazier. Then it justifies their use or others. But without that high, it can sometimes be worse. There is no magic wand. No motivation, therapy, that will cure wounds and scars so deep they won't heal like that. Imagine a burn victim. But it's on the inside with depression and anxiety. Tell them to be joyful. But of course there's kindness. Then perhaps there's a way.
Depression comes from how we perceive failed goal achievement. In other words, if we have major goals and we cannot achieve them, our brain begins to develop stress, and the stress can cause biochemical changes.
This can be fought several ways. One is the pharmaceutical approach. Or self-medicate with booze. But another is to take charge of your mind and find ways to reduce the stress, and another is to perform physical exercise, which affects neurochemical balances. One more is to change physical environment, by this method distracting oneself.
10 years ago I decided to make fun out of every situation using my imagination (even if I’m doing the dishes) with the theory that the joy I experience would thwart off depression. It worked. I never once got depression ever since doing it. It worked.
Yes, lack of joy does cause a chemical imbalance but it is the lack of joy causing the imbalance. The imbalance isn't just happening randomly.
Same with most illnesses. They stem from improper thinking that triggers physical problems.
Or when a grandma lifts a car. Her desire to save the child under it causes a powerful change in her strength but it all stems from the mind which triggers it and we control the mind.
Or when Placebos heal people even though they are fake pills.
Yes exactly. The mind can go bad. Why do you think TV and radio media is filled with so much degeneracy? You consume it, eventually your mind is poisoned and your life falls apart. The Deep State know what they are doing.
The poison in food, water and air can cause ALL kinds of problems as well but once the diet is changed, those side effects drop after a month or so.

Yeah, just like I wrote: no direct central measurements. All we can do is metabolomics and tagged/radio label studies.
But yeah, we agree on the most important point: SSRIs are just mostly crap and good living/diet/exercise is superior.
