Depression comes from how we perceive failed goal achievement. In other words, if we have major goals and we cannot achieve them, our brain begins to develop stress, and the stress can cause biochemical changes.
This can be fought several ways. One is the pharmaceutical approach. Or self-medicate with booze. But another is to take charge of your mind and find ways to reduce the stress, and another is to perform physical exercise, which affects neurochemical balances. One more is to change physical environment, by this method distracting oneself.
10 years ago I decided to make fun out of every situation using my imagination (even if I’m doing the dishes) with the theory that the joy I experience would thwart off depression. It worked. I never once got depression ever since doing it. It worked.
