From my understanding of the military situation the Ukrainian Armed Forces were trained to the same standards as NATO troops, and are reported to have performed as well as any. To put a finer point on it, that was the contract servicemen and not the Territorial Defense conscripts.

But also as of now, all replacements are Territorial Defense, not professionals. Why? Because the regular armed forces have been wiped out by the Russians and none are available to replace losses at the front.

So what does this say about the war that the West so ardently seeks? Obviously, they love war profiteering and are death cultists, but beyond that is there some larger geopolitical strategem at work by having Russia kick NATO's teeth down it's throat?

The big downside seems to be that all fence-sitters will choose a side, and many will side with the winning team. They will know that if they aren't next after Russia, they're somewhere in line waiting their turn. They can't deal with a rabid dog by telling it they don't want to fight and would just like to be friends.
