I was in fear of losing my life.

I had to defend myself.

I need to go to the hospital.

I don’t feel well.

I think I’m having a heart attack.

That’s it, then STFU.

Some police stations don’t have “agreements” with hospitals, in this case the police would have to release you, because they don’t want to pay your hospital bill. They will contact you later, but while you are at the hospital you can lower blood pressure, adrenaline, think more clearly, quiet the lizard (fight) part of the brain and contact a self defense attorney (some attorneys will do probono for the publicity).

So if the cops do take you to the hospital, and you are still technically “under arrest”, Repeat after me:

I do not want to answer ANY QUESTIONS without my attorney present. ANY / None / nada means not even “How are you doing?” They use “caring” questions to get you to talk. Don’t fall for it.

They can get almost anyone to cave if the “suspect” is “pumped up” just after an “alleged” crime, it’s psychological warfare. If you know the “loopholes” you have a better chance of evading prosecution for justifiable homicide. You don’t want to end up in an interrogation room with adrenaline pumping through your veins, makes you much more susceptible to “breaking”.
