Reasoning represents the conflict between wanting versus not wanting a suggestion (Christianity, Communism, Covid-19). Whichever side one chooses to want or not want puts one against the other, since both sides represent consent to the same suggestion. Nature doesn't operate on choice vs choice reasoning (imbalance); it operates on enacting balance towards reacting choice.
Those who ignore being the choice within perceived need/want balance; are tempted into a suggested want vs not want imbalance by the choice of others. Does one need Christianity, Communism, Covid-19 or are the suggestions thereof by others tempting one to want or not want them?
You blame Christianity for the dark ages? I'm not sure that's accurate. Rome was about to collapse and Christianity kept it around for another 600 years. The HRE was the only thing that kept Europe from become a bunch of tribal Muslim vassal states.
