As much as we want to think we are as advanced as society has ever gotten, the true reality is, society can easily disappear in a thousand years, leaving remnants of nothing. Most of the structures we have today do not have the ability to last the test of time because of how they are produced, 1000 years from now, it's very probable without proper maintenance, it will disappear from human sight.
Actually it goes back further. Much further about 5000 years or even older. Plenty of documentation older than 2000 years.
