It could be a distraction from, f.e. lithium as some ingridient of much more effective and powerful source of energy. To spend all lithium for batteries, and causing all R&D on lithium chemical/nuclear/whatever systems aimed only in the direction of that shitty ineffective and unreliable batteries with very low energy storage / price ratio that could not be fixed at all.
Also, lithium batteries have unfixeable self-limited number of cycles, which is very pleasant thing for big tech corporations. Lithium batteries have planned obsolence in the principle of work itself, not in the specific and intended engineering solutions used, so it is a perfect product for sale and nobody will ask unwanted questions about intended drawbacks in design.
