Sadam tried to murder Bush Sr, Sadam started doing business in Euro, there was serious lobbying from saudi.

If the US had gone, in removed sadam and had replaced him with a more friendly dictator it would have been economically positive for the US

Yes, and by those standards, you can think why Russia invading Ukraine would be just as rational.

When it comes to Iraq the problem was that America tried to set up a functioning democracy in a place where people have had one totalitarian leader after another since the Bronze Age. That was the dumb part, aside from the justification for the war.

No, that's the point I can not think of any reason invading Ukraine would have made any economic sense for Russia.

The US defending the petrodollar makes great economic sense.

Not everything has to make economic sense, it can make military or strategic sense. Do you think that want Nato offensive weapons right next door, blocking access to a warm water port?

they already are surrounded by nato weapons, and crimea would have been forgotten it changed hands if they kept up business as usual like the past 8 years. Pretty certain they would have gotten away with the donbas annexation
