Putin hasn't been doing well the last couple of years, he disappeared a couple of months not that long ago.
So yeah I could imagine him doing something that will "cost him his head" to further some agenda.
Since there is no sane reason for Putin to invade Ukraine. We knew from the start it would end up a quagmire that does nothing but burn money like afghanistan and Iraq did for the US.
It ended up being even worse.
But I don't know, for all I know the Crap that happened in Kazakstan brought some things to light that made this happen.
what ever "the plan" I don't see the madness end unless something very serious happens like the big one in california, the north korean vulcano going boom or a meteorite vaporizing Washington DC
Yes, and by those standards, you can think why Russia invading Ukraine would be just as rational.
When it comes to Iraq the problem was that America tried to set up a functioning democracy in a place where people have had one totalitarian leader after another since the Bronze Age. That was the dumb part, aside from the justification for the war.

There was no sane reason for America to invade Iraq a 2nd time either, and Putin had a more sane reason to invade Ukraine than America did Iraq.
Sadam tried to murder Bush Sr, Sadam started doing business in Euro, there was serious lobbying from saudi.
If the US had gone, in removed sadam and had replaced him with a more friendly dictator it would have been economically positive for the US

No, that's the point I can not think of any reason invading Ukraine would have made any economic sense for Russia.
The US defending the petrodollar makes great economic sense.
To keep the moral high ground, he would have had to invade back in 2014, but perhaps he's trying to redeem himself now.
